About Us
Hello and welcome to our shop - Drift Away Craft Studio.
All our wooden items are lovingly hand-made from driftwood collected from the Dorset Jurassic coast. We began making these pieces in our small studio in our garden after we both retired and felt the need to do something creative to fill our days.
We were unsure exactly what we would like to do but, while out walking along the beach at Charmouth, we literally stumbled on a large piece of beautiful driftwood and it gave us our inspiration to re-use and re-purpose these wonderful pieces of nature.
Some of the items are embellished with a small ammonite, a fossil synonymous with the Jurassic coastline. We treat the wood by soaking it in a mild bleach solution for a couple of days, this ensures all bacteria is destroyed and the wood is preserved to maintain its beautiful, natural qualities for many years.
Earlier this year, we decided to diversify and move into creating stunning pieces using resin. We love this technique, the way each piece comes out entirely differently, even though the same mica powders and pigments have been used, we excitedly return the next day to see how our artwork has settled and cured overnight.
Our love of the sea and coastline is present in most of our artwork, we are also combining our love of driftwood and resin to create some stunning and unique pieces.
The resin we use is cruelty-free, non-toxic, UV stable and vegan-friendly as is the powder and pigments used to give the resin its fantastic colour.
We always aim to use sustainable and planet friendly techniques with everything we make and re-use as much packaging as possible.
As each item is handmade, each piece is different and has its own personality, a bit like us!
